Working Remotely in 2021
Posted on February 25th, 2021
With everything that happened in 2020, working remotely became mandatory across a majority of businesses. However, the stay-at-home mandate actually made business owners rethink the structure of their employees’ workdays. A study done by Nicholas Bloom, a professor at Stanford University showed that workers were 13% more productive at home.
Now that employers have experienced remote work and are more comfortable with it, they are likely to continue allowing employees to work from home. In fact, in 2021, 1 in 4 Americans are working remotely. By working remotely, businesses are able to reduce overhead costs and allow employees to find a better work-life balance. Companies don’t have to pay for an office space or supplies which can effectively cut expenses that can be allocated towards other aspects of the company.
In addition to the increase of remote workers in 2021, there is more expected growth. According to Forbes, by 2025, 36.3 million Americans will be working remotely which is an 87% increase from 2020.
What does an increase in remote work mean?
As remote work becomes the future of how businesses function, it is important to assess your current business structure. Consider the following questions:
- Does your business have all of the necessary tools to function remotely?
- How will your business account for employee work?
- Do you have a centralized line of communication for all employees to collaborate?
Businesses should consider if they have the proper tools for a seamless online transition. A solution to properly track, report, account, and communicate with employees will optimize remote working.
